Void Gallery

Void was an artist-run centre that operated in Saskatoon from 2012-2022. We focused on supporting emerging artists and making space for those who have been excluded from Saskatoon’s arts communities or the western art world more generally. In response to its communities, Void moved through numerous forms over its near decade of operations, including a commercial gallery, printmaking studio, and centre for community-based art practices. Throughout its various forms, Void was led by Métis artist Michael Peterson.

While Void has ceased formal operations, a number of projects started through the organization continue to live on. Shop Cold Pizza, an art and apparel brand that works with artists across the country to design, print, and sell their goods, releases one to two collections per year. We continue to work with Core Neighbourhood Youth Co-op, building a screen print studio in their building and providing ongoing training and support. And our zine collection, created by members of excluded communities – including newcomers, Indigenous youth, people living with disabilities, and elders – continues to grow.

Zines

Since 2018 we have worked with people who have been excluded by the western art world – including newcomers, Indigenous youth, people living with disabilities, and elders – providing training toward each participant writing and illustrating a zine sharing a story or topic of their choosing.
